What's Included

Diagnose on-site. Fix on-site when I can. Tow only if I have to.

Most no-starts in Hampton Roads come down to battery, starter, alternator, ignition, fuel, or anti-theft. We can test and usually replace all of those right where the car died. No need to pay for a tow before we even know what's wrong.

  • Roadside diagnosisWherever the car is: driveway, work parking lot, gas station, shoulder of 64. We come to it.
  • Jumpstart + battery testLoad test the battery and charging system so you know whether you actually need a new one, or just a jump.
  • Starter + alternator replacement on-siteCommon-fit parts ride on the truck. Most starter and alternator swaps we do where you are.
  • Fuel pump & ignition diagnosticsSpark test, fuel pressure check, coil and injector pulse. Confirm what's missing before pulling parts.
  • Anti-theft / immobilizer resetMore common than you'd think. Security light on, no-start, cranks fine. We reset and verify.
When to Call

Any of these? Call us before the tow truck.

Cranks But Won't Catch

Engine turns over fine but never fires. Usually fuel, spark, or sensor. Testable on-site in minutes.

No Crank, No Click

Completely dead. No lights, no clicks, nothing on the key turn. Battery, cable, or kill switch.

Single Click on Key Turn

Classic starter solenoid or weak battery. I can confirm in 30 seconds with a multimeter.

Fine Yesterday, Dead Today

Drove home fine, won't start in the morning. Parasitic drain, weak battery, or charging issue.

Stalls and Won't Restart

Dies at idle or on the road, won't fire back up. Crank sensor, fuel pump, or ignition module.

Anti-Theft / Security Light On

Cranks but won't fire and the key/security light is lit? Immobilizer issue. Often a quick reset.

How It Works

Triage. Test. Fix where you are.

Triage by Symptom

Crank vs no-crank vs click. First question on the phone narrows it 80%. We bring the right parts on the truck.

Test Battery + Charging On-Site

Load tester on the battery, voltage drop check on the cables, charging output from the alternator. Numbers, not guesses.

Diagnose Ignition / Fuel / Immobilizer

If it cranks but won't catch: spark, fuel pressure, sensor signals. Scope and scanner pinpoint which system is dropping out.

Repair or Recommend Tow

If we can fix it where you are, we do, and you skip the tow bill. If we can't (engine internal, transmission), we tell you straight and recommend a tow.

"Car died in the Target parking lot after work. Called Ground Works, they were there in 45 minutes, swapped a bad starter on the spot, and I drove home. Saved me a $200 tow."

"Got jumped twice in one week and was about to buy a battery. They came out, tested everything, and it turned out my alternator was failing. Got it replaced same visit at half what a shop quoted."

Jenna R. · Portsmouth Google

"Anti-theft light was on and my Hyundai wouldn't start. Tow truck driver had no idea. These guys reset the immobilizer in 15 minutes and I was on my way. Real mechanics."

Common Questions

No-Start & Roadside FAQs.

How fast can you get to me?

Hampton Roads coverage means most calls within 60 minutes during business hours. Heavy job day or weekends may push it. We'll tell you straight when we book.

If you're somewhere unsafe (active lane of I-64, dark shoulder at night), call us and we'll talk you through where to get to before we head out.

Will my car be safe to drive after a roadside fix?

If we fix it, yes. We don't patch and hope. If a part needs replacing, we replace it with the right part, not a zip tie.

If we can't make it genuinely road-safe (cracked block, blown head gasket, transmission failure), we tell you and you tow. We won't send you off in something we wouldn't drive ourselves.

Can you tow me?

We're not a tow service. But we'll recommend a local tow operator we trust and meet your car at home to fix it there, saving you the tow yard markup and a second trip.

Do you carry parts on the truck?

Yes for common stuff: batteries, starters and alternators for popular vehicles, ignition coils, fuel filters, basic sensors, belts.

Less common parts we source from local NAPA or O'Reilly, usually within an hour. We don't make you wait two days for an Amazon delivery.

Is roadside more expensive than driveway?

No. Same labor rate, same parts pricing. We charge for the diagnostic visit + whatever the actual fix costs. No "emergency surcharge" or roadside premium.
